Brooke and Matthew

Where we live we have great neighbors that are also great friends. Our next door neighbors are both in school and they let us watch their little son Matthew for them Monday mornings while they have class. Brooke and Matthew are kindred spirits. They are close in age, are both hard of hearing on the same side, they both have similar birth stories, They are both good friends with Elmo, both have dad's in the same major and in love with hunting and fishing, and have moms who are good friends.

While I was pregnant with Abby I had a hard time. There were times I wasn’t the Mom to Brooke I wanted to be. I assure you she got very good care but there were times I was too tired to entertain (some of you have been there). Since Abby has been born and is now sleeping in better patterns and taking good naps, I have time to be the "fun" mom I want to be. This morning while Matthew was with us I found a few fun things for them to do. They went for a "carpet ride". I just put them on a blanket and pulled them around the house. Then we climbed a large "snow" pile, which were all the pillows in the house piled together. And we finished off with some squishy bags. I put hair gel and food coloring in zip-lock bags and let them mix it together. The texture was so fun to them. Oh, I can't forget I also tapped the baggies shut!

We had a blast! I had so much fun playing with them and watching them play with each other. Today was one of those days where it was easy to remember why I wanted to be a mom in the first place. Fun days like this make me forget all the things Brooke put up her nose, and the lack of sleep I am running on. Being a parent is not what I thought it would be; on days like these it is so much better.
